LTE to NR Handover
LTE to NR handover is a process in which UE switches the cell from LTE to NR cell in connected mode. It is a type of InterRAT handover since the cell change happens between two different RAT(Radio Access Technology).
Procedure of Handover (LTE to NR handover)
Overall logic is simple and this process are the same (or at least very similar) in every technology.
Following is overall description of this flow : i) eNB send RrcConnectionReconfiguration with measurement configuration. The detailed configuration would vary depending on eNB, but it is highy likely to have B2-NR even to maket it sure that both eNB and gNB power meet the power requirement for handover. ii) UE sends Measurement Report iii) (If eNB get the required MeasurementReport), eNB sends MobilityFromEUTRACommand. MobilityFromEUTRACommand commands NR RrcReconfiguration message embedded in it. iv) UE decodes the RrcReconfiguration contained in MobilityFromEUTRACommand , switch cell to gNB and perform RACH process to gNB. v) (If RACH is properly completed), UE sends RrcReconfiguration to gNB.
