Ethernet : Jumbo Frame

Jumbo Frame is a kind of Ethernet Frame which has data size greater than 1500 bytes. The maximum data size of Jumbo frame is 8188 bytes as illustrated below.

Jumbo frame is designed mainly to improve the performance of Giga bit ethernet. So most of Giga bit NIC (Network Interface Card) would support Jumbo packet or provide option to enable/disable it. However, this doesn't mean that all Gbit NIC support max size of Jumbo packet. If you have Gbit NIC, you may see some Jumbo Packet configuration as shown below.
